Release & Review: Step-Lover by Bella Jewel

Title: Step-Lover
Author: Bella Jewel
 Release Date: March 9, 2015

Synopsis

A STEPBROTHER ROMANCE

Intended for mature audiences only

I met him before I knew.

I loved him before I knew.

I didn’t know he was my stepbrother when I fell for Bladen. I fell for a mystery guy who I spent a long, amazing weekend with. Then he got up and left me, without even a goodbye. I was nothing more than a bit of fun.

He broke my heart.

I didn’t see him again.

Until my mom and her new husband, Jack, decide to take us all on a family vacation to the lake so I can meet my new stepbrothers for the first time.

I don’t see it coming.

When he gets out of that car, my world stops. My passionate lover is…my stepbrother.

He isn’t the same man. He’s a prick and he makes sure I know it.

I’m not the same woman. I’m in love with him and I very much plan to make sure he knows it.

He won’t make my life easy. I won’t give up.

3.5 Stars
I love a Bella Jewel story. She has the ability to bring you in and force you to feel the emotions that the characters she has created are feeling. Step-Lover was no exception for me. I felt sadness, heartbreak, frustration, and also anger just to name a few. This book also has a sexy heat factor that we’ve come to expect from this author. It’s well written, has great character development, and it has an interesting storyline that seems to be the popular choice for readers right now.

I liked how this story flashes back and forward a few times giving us insight into how it all began for Aria and Blade. When these characters first meet, they are young and regrettably make bad choices. The struggles with their guilt and shame frustrated me at times, but that was the angst that the story needed. They both finally reach a point in life when they realize they can’t fight what is meant to be.

Sadly, what didn’t work for me throughout was Blade. I wanted to love him, but I didn’t. I wanted to forgive him for being a jerk, but I couldn’t. He didn’t quite redeem himself to me, but the book still ended on a high note for me regardless of my feelings for Blade.

I recommend this journey to lovers of Bella Jewel and those that enjoy a ‘forbidden’ tale that wraps up with a happily ever after. I am looking forward to the next in the series. I can’t wait to get into Brody’s head!
